You should start at twenty minutes and gradually work your way up to an hour. You don't want to be exhausted when you work out or you will not get as much benefit from the exercises.

Before you begin your regular exercise routine, perform dynamic stretches instead of static stretches. Stretching is key to preventing injury during exercise, and dynamic stretching greatly reduces your risk of injury compared to static stretching. Dynamic stretching also provides you with a gradual warm up to your exercise, saving you time in your fitness routine.

Cut your running schedule in half occasionally. Overdoing it is never a good idea for your body, so every few months, take an entire week to halve your running schedule. You will give your body ample time to recover without losing any of the endurance or speed you gained earlier.

Increase your ability to jump. Stand at the bottom of a set of stairs, and jump back and forth from the bottom step to the floor. Continue this until you feel comfortable jumping at that height. Once you are, move to something higher. Always make sure what you are jumping on is stable and secure.

If you plan on exercising longer than an hour you need to consume between 45 and 60 grams of carbohydrates per hour of exercise.
