So i'm a 28yr old Brit living in a small city in China. Over the last 4 years i have consistently put on weight here, something i put down to the terrible diet that is available in China. Most food revolves around white carbs (rice or wheat) and the main dishes are heavy on the salt, oil and MSG. Bleugh.
My main aim here is to create a low GI recipe using products sourced from Taobao and HK online stores that offer delivery to the mainland.
Cost is not my primary concern as i do not mind paying extra for the best ingredients.
I have focused on black beans which need to be cooked thoroughly to prevent food poisoning. I keep my cooked black beans in the freezer and use a food processor (blender) to mix them with the other ingredients. Black beans are low GI, high fibre and delicious. You can swap the black beans for other types like kidney beans if necessary but always buy dry - they are so much cheaper and better tasting (and less gassy). Pressure cookers work great - always make sure the beans are cooked through! Cant stress that one enough!
I also advocate using casein protein as this has a lower glycemic load than whey - I welcome any comments you may have!
