My goal is to create a recipe to try the soylent experience at a low cost of entry. Total cost per meal or per day will be higher since certain expensive ingredients will be sourced in smaller packages to keep the bottom line cost down. Ingredients already in my kitchen, or easy to source from supermarkets are prioritized over specific and optimized products. Prices are based on local prices in Huntsville Alabama.

The oatmeal is ground in a coffee grinder or cooked beforehand and added to the mix as a porridge. A coffee grinder handles 50 grams of the rolled oats and turns them into flour in a few seconds. Two batches works just fine.

Preparation notes: Unlike the official soylent, the corn flour has a nasty habit of settling to the bottom of the container and not staying in suspension. I assume this is a common problem in maseca based soylents. This is alleviated somewhat if I take the time to simmer the maseca and oat flour in a pot for an hour or so before blending. As long as I don't overload the blender, the results are just fine. The grainy, coarse texture of the nixmatal softens and is nicer on the palate.
