WORTHWHILE NOTES

  • Niacin: I have fudged things here. GNC MegaMen Sport uses "niacinamide and niacin" for its Niacin, but I am unware at what ratio. Presumably this is safe, given that I am not even taking a full suggested serving, but it's important to note! I used 20mg/serving (rather than 50 on the label).
  • More Nutritional Fudging: Nutritional Information on all products is somewhat incomplete when we're trying to dig deep into certain things (like sulfur, for instance). I used Nutritional Data when provided, but in the absence of that I used the USDA db (http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/) and http://nutritiondata.self.com/ to get things "ballparked." These values are guaranteed to be imprecise!
  • Bioavailability: I'm no scientist. Does GNC MegaMen listing "calcium" as "calcium carbonate" mean that it contains "200mg" of calcium carbonate (and thus less than 200mg of calcium)? Or does it mean that it contains enough calcium carbonate so that you should get 200mg of calcium total? You'd think that since it lists the RDA it would mean that you are getting 100% of the number they give per serving, but then the amount of Niacin would be far too high. shrugs Another layer of imprecision. This affects far more than just Niacin and Calcium.
  • Bioavailability II: Many vitamins/minerals/nutrients come in multiple forms. For Example: ALA Omega-3 is purportedly not as easy to metabolize as DHA or EPA sources. Over time the effects of discrepancies like this may be dangerous if subsisting entirely on soylent. More imprecision!
