Purposefully a Low Carb, High Fat/Protein meal alternative.
I suffer from SIBO, small intestine bacterial overgrowth. Bacteria colonizing in the wrong place of my gut. Anything that sits in the gut too long, anything more complex than than the basic molecules causes me issues. Bacteria feeds on the food, ferments and causes excess gas and bloating with significant pain.
Basically, I was told: no sugars, dairy, wheat, corn, or soy... Well, limited sugar, including, if any, fruit. Sugars more complex than the most simple glucose caused me distress. I've ordered the sugars from simple --> complex: glucose, fructose, sucrose, sucralose, sugar alcohols (honey, fruit sugar, table sugar, brown rice syrup, brown sugar, maple syrup, molasses). Limited veggies: specifically no onions, apples, pears and legumes. These became my default snack, but found that too much vegetables is also problematic. You'd think... well.
I was told to eat only eggs, cooked veggies, less than 1/4 c white rice, cooked meat/fish and chewing well. I've improved slightly since then, but my boyfriend and I came up with this soylent substitute last October that I can eat without too much worry. In the meantime, I'm working on a solution to my gut problem, but this liquid diet helps when struggling to find food that's easy on my tummy.
I blend 1/2 day portions for myself (2-14 oz bottles worth): 45g Egg white protein, 15g sunflower lecithin, 1/8t salt, 1/2 scoop multivitamin powder Ice 42g flaxseed oil, 7g coconut oil, 14g honey Any added flavorings (see below) Add water to blend, pour into cleaned out 14 oz bottles 50/50, fill to top with water (stores in fridge for 24-48hrs)
I also take Nordic Naturals Omega 3 Fatty acid soft gels because mixing in the liquid tastes awful.
Flavor Alternatives (added to the daily recipe) Base Flavor Vanilla - add more Vanilla to taste, maybe add more honey if you feel it'll taste better. Pumpkin Oil - substitute 1-2 T for the Flax/Grapeseed oil; also add nutmeg/cinnamon to taste Chocolate - add 1-2 T unsweetened cocoa powder Blueberry - add 1-2T Pure Blueberry powder (found at fancy stores WholeFoods/PCC, etc)
