Jackal

Why?

We wanted something that has a decent palette, with a fair price point (~$6.00/day), and that adhered to a detailed and current Nutrient Profile. It should be simple enough that you can take anywhere WITHOUT needing to pack oil with you.

1. The Nutrient Profile
Take the standard U.S. Government DRI (male 19-50), optimize micronutrient ratios, finetune fiber, and include real upper intake limits. That leaves you with U.S. government DRI, male 19-50, 2000 calories (w/ optimal micronutrient ratios + Fiber + Updated UL)

2. The Addition of Whole Foods and Meals
Jackal contains Phytonutrients. With that said, we're not dietitians, but from what I've read I don't think it's nutritionally wise to adhere strictly to diet that's founded on a set of isolated known beneficial nutrients. Doing so will most likely cause a lack of nutrition in something we haven't found to be useful yet.

It is therefore recommended to still add whole foods into your diet so that we can still get nutrients that will be discovered useful in the future, and eliminate possible acute deficiencies. For recent historical evidence, Choline and Vitamin K are two things that we didn't establish to have dietary (and defined) importance until recently. I'm near certain there's variants of vitamins that have the same characteristics of discovery today.

Again, we try make this less of an issue by relying on grain and nut powders instead of vitamin supplements, but it's not enough. That's sad news to hear, I know. It is suggested to try adding berries, cinnamon, cocoa, spinach, or a banana to your shakes and eating a meal at least bi-daily. By keeping salad supplies and nuts on hand to, you can still keep meal preparation quick and should satisfy the unknown micronutrient/phytochemical requirements.

Outsanding Issues

  1. Microbiota is not accounted for
  2. Enteral nutrition (Liquid) vs Mastication (Chewing) is inconclusive
