This is my first attempt at a Soylent alternative, and an attempt to make a shake for optimum health. The name is inspired partly by the color the supplements impart, and partly by Drexler's hypothetical apocalypse.

As such, I've paid attention to several items:

  • The ratio of saturated to monounsaturated to polyunsaturated fats (medium-chain saturated fatty acids make up about 7% of total fat intake, in line with AHA and HSPH suggestions, with a toss-up between mono- and polyunsaturated fats)
  • The ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (research suggests between 4:1 and 1:1 Ω6:Ω3, possibly even lower, is optimum for long-term health)
  • The rate at which the carbs would be absorbed and utilized (slower carbs are favored, with some honey and tapioca for quick energy)
  • Extra vitamin D3 given current research on the matter
  • Whey protein was selected for its alleged immune benefits; ditto with xylitol and honey (besides their favorable qualities over table sugar)

Also tossed in 40mg lycopene, 4mg astaxanthin, 25mg lutein, 5mg zeaxanthin, and 50mg anthocyanins, for good measure. Went with cold-pressed or virgin oils (barring the distilled fish oil capsules) for additional phytochemicals, since shakes of this nature are bound to be rather starved of those.

The fiber content might seem high, but that's partly because the resistant starch is inflating that number. I expect that once my gut adapts, it would be much less fiber-like in its nature. It's also partly because there doesn't seem to be an upper limit to the amount of soluble fiber one consumes, as long as your gut has time to adapt… so why the hell not, let's just make it really fiber rich.

Considering working spirulina into all this, possibly as the main protein source, but I haven't figured out a way to make it not taste the way a salt marsh smells in August. Any thoughts?

This is formulated for about 1600 kcal per day, as a means for steady weight loss. I intend to go all-in for a year and hopefully come out the other end lean and much healthier. However, it should scale up reasonably well, depending on one's needs.
