Sucralose and stevia, being fine powders and very lightweight, get into the air really easily and smell sickly sweet. That doesn't happen with sugar granules, which are enormous, in comparison. In the right amounts, they all have the same sweetness when…

@leecauble1 the blood was the normal dark purple and the clotting was normal. Darn. @dakota0626 another pease of relevant info I should of mentioned earlier but didn't. I'm using a DIY soylent not Soylent. I'm using (s)oylent Green. http://diy.soylent.me/recipes/soylent-green-11

Water soluble vitamins like vitamin c are water soluble no matter what they are in, Soylent or other. That's not changeable. If veggies in water lose some vitamins into the water, then the vitamins are in the water, and you get them if you drink the…

Absolutely. There needs to be more soluble fiber in Soylent. I've had 9 of my 14 days, and each day results in unpleasant bathroom trips. It's pretty bad. I'll try adding some of the psyllium husk to my next batch... I wonder if it will have an impact…

That should have been apparent based on the color of the blood. Arterial blood is brighter red than venous blood due to the presence of oxygen. You also would have probably taken longer to clot when the needle was removed as the blood would be forcefully…

Thank you for the explanation. I really do appreciate it. Given what you said it's not as impossible she hit an artery as I thought. My veins roll and she initially missed the vein an had to hunt for it possibly hitting the artery.
leecauble1 - Sep 28, 2014 3:54pm
Water soluable usually refers to how the body metabolizes and stores or elimates them. Water soluable vitamins taken in excess are eliminated in urine. Fat soluable are stored in fat cell and excess consumption can lead to toxicity. I'm not aware of…

You've never done IVs then. The veins are in the antecubital region also run along a couple arteries. It's very easy to be an experienced care provider and hit one by mistake, happens all the time. The catheters are sized in guages, a 24 guage has…

@dakota0626 I forgot to mention this was done at the Red Cross. Taking blood is what they do all day everyday. Its extremely unlikely I got the special ultra wide catheter or that the nurse hit an artery or picked a weird vein. She took it from the…

@materialsguy soy isn't the devil in disguise the Internet is making it out to be. Soybean oil gives me vitamin K and enough omega 6 to make the USDA happy. But on the other hand the amount of omega 6 could be part of my problem. To balance it out I…

Factors could also involve hydration, blood pressure, catheter gauge, vein selection or misidentification of an artery, etc.
horsfield - Sep 28, 2014 2:10pm
@Tetsuo I'm more inclined to believe MentalNomad. A vitamin K deficiency would prevent my blood from clotting which wasn't a problem. I take the dreaded soybean oil which gives me plenty of K. Conversely I take 11g of omega 3s which can reduce the viscosity…

What I mean is do the vitamins and minerals loose their potency when they sit in water for over an hour? If you put fresh vegetables in water, they will quickly loose their nutrients.
MentalNomad - Sep 28, 2014 1:49pm
No, I mean I was wrong to be concerned that you might be unable to absorb the extra iron if you took it weekly instead of daily. And iron is well-stored when you absorb it.

Sugar alcohols are the worst. See Haribo's Sugar-Free Gummy Bears: www.amazon.com Customer Reviews That said, I would prefer Soylent with no sugar additives at all, real or fake. I may have to try Schmoylent…

My biggest concern is with your fats. You have a very good omega 3/6 ratio, but I would worry about the total amount of omega 6 you are getting. Obviously just a personal opinion, but I think soybean oil is one of the worst oils you can use. High levels…

Ok, so your saying adding the iron supplement to the powder everyday shouldn't be problem?
MentalNomad - Sep 28, 2014 3:59am
Never mind on the iron... Iron absorption rates decline as iron dosage goes up, which makes getting large amounts problematic, but the effect doesn't come into play here. It only matters at the dosage levels used to treat anemia, which are way above…
MentalNomad - Sep 28, 2014 3:51am
I'm not concerned with the iron getting into solution and being bioavailable... I'm concerned with whether your body can absorb that quantity in just one meal. I seem to recall max absorption rates, but I may be off on this. Then again, if you dump the…

I know very little about the sourcing of the vitamins they use in Soylent, but I have no inherent doubts about their quality. Part of the reason I do DIY soylent is because I'm not satisfied with the levels of vitamins in Soylent; they took a minimalist…

The body can store iron very well - too well, for many men - so getting it periodically instead of daily is doable. The catch is that you may not be able to absorb it very well if it's delivered all in one dose. I'd have a big concern in the very high…

I agree with many of the points already made here. In an air-conditioned gym, it's not just cooler, it's dryer. If you work out actively, it's easy to actually sweat and not realize how much, leading to dehydration. Also, just breathing that dry air…
