I hate to cook and I hate to go grocery shopping. Consequently, I have spent most of my adult life eating out and gaining weight. I am at an age now where I am becoming aware of the health effects of this diet (LOL). I heard about Soylent and it fascinated me, but I didn't want to wait for any shipments to get started.
I developed this recipe with an eye towards easy to acquire ingredients. I chose olive oil and whole wheat flour specifically because I can get them at my grocery store. The rest of the ingredients were chosen because I have a Vitamin Shoppe right down the road.
I chose the macro percentages (carb/protein,fat) to get close to the ratios recommended for weight loss. Weight loss is also the primary reason that I chose Casein as my protein source. It is a "slow-release" protein and helps keep hunger at bay.
I found it's very important for the mixture to be easy mixing (no clumps), a good consistency, and, of course, decent tasting. You don't need to blenderize the ingredients as they mix to a shake-like consistency in a shaker bottle. As far as taste goes, I prefer a smooth taste that isn't overwhelming so I use vanilla-flavored casein as well as vitamin mix. The agave is in the formula to highlight the flavoring - it isn't adding anything nutritionally. I experiment with other flavors of the protein mix to keep it fresh but I stick with "base" flavors like banana or strawberry and haven't ventured into the richer chocolates or peanut butter tastes.
I spend 15 minutes once a week to make a big batch of the dry ingredients and then a couple of minutes whenever I am hungry, lazy, or in a hurry to make a single serving. The recipe I found most satisfying for a single serving is 60g of the dry mixture, 8g of olive oil, 3g of agave, and 12oz of water.
I do NOT replace all of my meals with Frink.
