First, thank you so much for your patience and continued support of Soylent as we spend all of our time making sure that Soylent is healthy, convenient and delicious.  At the time of our last update, RFI had placed orders for most of the ingredients required…

Good info. Thanks Stoinov!

another link from IOM that under the Adequate Intake for Inorganic Sulfate list organic sulfates as a source and explicitly lists Methionine and Cysteine. So go ahead and just look up your protein sources for the content of these two amino acids
QuidNYC - Jan 02, 2014 4:14am
I suppose I would favor dropping the "Sulfur" entry entirely, then, on the assumption that adequate protein intake will cover the SAA requirement. But failing that, I think re-labeling it would still be preferable to just leaving "Sulfur" as-is. If…
Sintax - Jan 02, 2014 2:38am
Yes, I understand your suggestion, people are confused about what they need. But by that logic shouldn't we just remove sulfur entirely and replace it with all of the essential amino acids? If the problem is confusion about what's important, then stressing…
QuidNYC - Jan 02, 2014 2:17am
Sintax -- understood and agreed, but what I'm suggesting is that the "Sulfur" field in the nutritional profile should be re-labeled as "Sulfur-containing Amino Acids" or "SAA" precisely to avoid this sort of confusion. There is no dietary requirement…
Sintax - Jan 02, 2014 2:07am
I use the requirements listed here for each of my amino acids. It adds up to 15 mg/kg for the C+M total. I'm not sure how valuable creating a separate SAA requirement would be since all of the amino acids listed are essential anyway. I think we should…

Thanks for the info Quid, it's weird how little information there seems to be on something that seems relatively important. I think your method of looking at the 13-15mg/kg body weight makes a lot more sense than the alternatives.
QuidNYC - Dec 31, 2013 1:48pm
Agreed -- but for those who have already calculated a value for "Sulfur" to plug into the nutritional profile using the SAA content of their ingredients, applying the mass ratios calculated by Sintax above would be inappropriate. In my case, if I were…

I think Myarter has it right. You still may need to worry about oxidation issues with the oil. There also is the high bioavailablity of the sugars in maltodextrin to be worried about. However, in theory there is no reason why this couldn't work.
